A new research was just published in Nature Materials. This is a collaborative work with Dr. Alex Hughes's group at UPenn. In this research project, we utilized Brillouin microscopy to elucidate the role of mechanical regulation in kidney development, a long-standing puzzle for biologists. Chenjun conducted all the Brillouin experiments and obtained very nice data. Congratulations!!

An article co-authored by Chenjun was just published in Journal of Cell Biology. This is a collaborative research with Dr. Gardinier from Henry Ford Health. Using Brillouin microscopy, we helped the scientists understand the osteocytes' response to dynamic mechanical loading.

We were awarded a seed fund from Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit to support our cancer research!!
06/19/2024
We were recently interviewed by Nature to discuss the promising potential of Brillouin microscopy in understanding the mechanical regulations during embryonic development.
02/10/2024
A review article on Brillouin microscopy was just published in Nature Reviews Methods Primers. This article is featured as the highlight of the month, AND the photo is from us: it's the Brillouin image of a spheroid taken by Karlin!!!

We received 2024 NSF CAREER Award!!
With the support of this award, we will develop a new non-contact imaging tool that can quantify 3D cell biomechanics in tumor growth. We hope this new tool can help biologists and doctors better understand the mechanism of cancer and develop new treatment strategies. Read the news here. |

Chenjun just published his work in JoVE as a leading author. In this work, we provided all the details about how to use Brillouin microscopy to monitor the mechanical evolution of embryonic tissue in situ when the embryo is developing in mini-incubator. Video comes soon!

A new paper with Chenjun as co-author was just published in Cancers. In this collaboration with Dr. Radhika Gogoi from Karmanos Cancer Institute and Dr. Gil Mor's group from C. S. Mott Center for Human Growth and Development, we used Brillouin technology to help cancer biologists identify the important role of CTGF (Connective Tissue Growth Factor) in EMT (Epithelial-mesenchymal transition). Jitao starts to serve as the Editorial Board Member of the Scientific Reports journal.
06/02/2023
Our lab is funded by "Grants Boost Program" of OVPR at Wayne State University. We will use this fund to collect more preliminary data for external proposal resubmission.
05/23/2023
Two projects in which our lab participates are funded by Richard Barber Interdisciplinary Research Program this year. We will work with Dr. Guan from Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders to study age-related hearing loss, and work with Dr. Mukhopadhyay from Department of Physics to study active crystals on top of a sphere.
